Colleen Politano is a preschool and kindergarten teacher. She lives with her husband Leon on Vancouver Island in the Canadian province of British Columbia. After a tragic experience, she decided to give other children and their parents and teachers some survival help.

Brief Description
After a personal tragedy - one of the children from her kindergarten got lost and died shortly after being rescued - Colleen Politano decided to do something to prepare children for when they get lost. To capture the attention of her child readers, she begins her OutdoorHandbook with a story about a boy who gets lost in the woods and knows how to handle himself in that situation

Colleen Politano then suggests planning different activities with children to help them understand why they should behave in a certain way in a certain situation, based on the story. Finally, she has some practical tips for parents and teachers on how best to prepare a child for an emergency.
