about the author
Hildegard Grünthaler, born in 1949, a trained nursery nurse, housewife and mother, believed for a long time that she was immune to wanderlust. Her husband Peter, who has suffered from wanderlust since his earliest youth, infected her with it at some point
After a few too-short long-distance vacation trips, Peter's lifelong dream was also her own: travel with plenty of time and her own motorhome. After a few years of planning and preparation, the house was rented out, the furniture sold and the motorhome, purchased at the last minute, shipped across the pond.
Brief Description
Even those who can't set off for three years in a motor home and have to leave it to dreaming for the time being will enjoy being taken along on the journey by the author. He will witness how the couple first had to learn how to travel properly and how, over time, their eye for "wild campsites" sharpened. On lonely roads off the beaten track, he will meet Amish people, Indians and Maoris, and be amused by encounters with snowbirds, hobos (vagrants) and other quaint types
He will ride through Monument Valley on a steel steed, rumble over the washboard dirt road of the Apache Trail, and make his way through potholes and over bumps on the MEX 1 to the lonely dream stands of Baja California. In Canada's wild nature he will sit with at the campfire and zockeln uphill, downhill over 1,000 hills and even more curves through New Zealand's dream landscapes
In Sydney, he and the author will spend a day sweating through customs, quarantine and the RTA (Roads and Traffic Authority), and in the Northern Territory he will jump into the Roper River to cool off with freshwater crocodiles. Because critical tones are not neglected, he naturally also gets to know the darker sides of the countries he travels through. If, at the end of the book, the reader is left with a strong sense of wanderlust, then this is definitely the intention of the book.
