Product description
Available in three different colors, the Opinel No. 8 Outdoor pocket knife is versatile for all outdoor activities. Opinel uses a modified Sandvik 12C27 steel with a blade thickness of 2.5 mm for the blade. The integrated shackle opener and the 3.5 cm wide partial serration extend the range of uses. The tried-and-tested Virobloc system locks the blade in the open and closed position. The robust plastic handle is made from a polyamide/fiberglass combination. Although a loud signal whistle has been integrated into the handle, the typical Opinel design has been retained. A plastic cord allows the knife to be attached to a hook, rucksack or belt.
Martensitic stainless steel
The stainless steel of Opinel blades is an optimized grade that guarantees both high corrosion resistance and high mechanical performance. The blade has excellent sharpness and high abrasion resistance (wear resistance), which allows it to withstand regular contact with hard materials such as ceramics before needing to be sharpened. Stainless steel has the advantage that, unlike carbon steel, it requires no special maintenance under normal conditions of use. Nevertheless, it can reach its limits if it comes into contact with an aggressive environment (acid, salt water, detergent, etc.) over a long period of time.
Handle
The knife handle is injected with glass fiber reinforced polyamide, which guarantees high resistance to impacts, water and extreme temperatures (-40 °C to +80 °C). A signal whistle without a ball is integrated at the end of the handle. It works in all weathers, with a strength of 110 dB and a range of around 300 meters outdoors.
Safety ring
The Virobloc safety ring is cut from stainless steel and consists of two parts: a fixed part and a sliding part. In addition to locking the blade in the open position (safe use), it is now also possible to lock the blade in the closed position (safe transportation).
